Manhattan
An Upper East Side Townhouse

THE EXTERIOR FAÇADE and interior of this newly private brownstone is completely renovated and transformed. Converting the residence to a single-family home led to assimilating new ideas and modern amenities while preserving the historic character. Incorporation of an elliptical oculus on the roof — a nod to the homeowners’ Roman roots and the Pantheon — illuminates the formerly dark interior of the brownstone with natural light. The new staircase is a sculptural statement born of technical artistry and design. Use of clear proportion, exquisite craft, and a mix of traditional and unexpected materials allow the house to appear as if it evolved organically over time.
